Nubra region comprises of two river valleys i.e. the Nubra Valley and the Shayok Valley. Shayok River is a major tributary of Indus. Beyond Shayok River Valley lays the confluence of river Indus and river Shayok. Here both the rivers are split into innumerable channels of streams spread over a desert-like terrain. The road lies low, close to the confluence and is bordered by mountains thereafter forming a flat desert leaving the mountainous landscape behind.
