Ladakh Festival A festival to bring all of Ladakh and its culture together at one place, Ladakh festival is to be held from 18th September, 2016 to 25th September, 2016 in Leh. The entire feast is spread throughout the town at different venues. It is an annual fest held by the J&K Tourism Department in association with the local communities and the district administration of Leh. Major attractions of the festival will be Polo games, Archery contests, musical and dance events, handicraft exhibitions and authentic delicacies from all the villages and valleys of Ladakh. The festival celebrates the legacy of the cultural heritage of Ladakh and showcases the same in an extravagant manner.
‘Drukpa’ or the ‘Dragon sect’ or the ‘Red Hat sect’ is a branch of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. Druk Kumbh, also known as the ‘Mahakumbh of the Himalayas’ is supposed to take place in Hemis in the month of July this year. The event will celebrate one thousand years of the Buddhist Yogi Naropa’s visit with a month long festivity including dance, music and religious ceremonies in the biggest monastery of Ladakh. It is also supposed to be an extended version of the annual Hemis festival that commemorates the birth anniversary of Guru Padmasambhava.
