Keeping fit is one thing you would not want to go wrong on your trip to Ladakh. As they say, “Prevention is better than cure”, one should always be aware about the possible discomforts that can be witnessed while visiting such high altitude areas of the Himalayas.

Here are a few tips that will help you to enjoy your stay in and around Ladakh without facing serious health issues

1. Compulsorily carry woollen clothing with at least one non woollen jacket to protect you against wind.

2. Keep your head and ears covered especially at high altitudes.

3. Wear shoes with good grip (preferably waterproof).

4. Drink at least 2 litres of water every day and keep sipping it at regular intervals instead of gulping all at once.

5. Keep a pack of snacks handy. Dates are a good source of warmth for the body.

6. Keep camphor lockets close to you to help you acclimatise better.

7. Apply sunscreen during the day and moisturiser in the evening.

8. Do everything at a slow pace, especially at high altitudes.

9. Do not halt at high altitude passes for a long time.

10. Smoking and intake of alcohol should be avoided as they absorb body oxygen.

11. Keep medical kits with you all the time with essential medicines including oxygen tablets.
